Central composites images of the Cairns rail precinct. The random arrangement of squares in the work alludes to the flow of people who pass through the area on any given day. A lone suitcase in the lower right stands in lieu of my signature

Bolthole imagines a sanctuary for creatures from my artistic menagerie. Their existence alone is reason enough to value all living things. This work has evolved over three years. Various Cairns references feature throughout.

This work Hidden Sea is about my artistic imaginings, the constructs of my creative mind. The window is an eye looking out onto the actual world.

It was awarded best digital entry in the Cairns Annual.

EUNICE McALLISTER - CAIRNS ART SOCIETY ANNUAL, 2022
CAIRNS ART SOCIETY ANNUAL, 2022, Cairns Art Gallery

I had two works in this exhibition. "Understory I" won in the category of best digitally manipulated work.

The Understory works combine tropical plant life and man-made elements both historical and current to simulate nature retaking an ancient site. The picture-within-a-picture device is used for the narrative. "Understory" refers to a plant base but also to the back history of the region. The spine of this "story book" is partly natural (an unfurled monstera deliciosa leaf) and industrial (a metal door hinge).
